Well, its the dog days of Summer, and I can't think of a better place to be, than upstate New York. So today I present to you this collection of Barber-designed homes, built in the Empire state. I don't fully understand, yet, the reason for the immense popularity Barber's designs experienced there, but the sheer quantity of extant Barber houses built in New York, rivals other states where Barber had deeper roots. The homes in these recent posts, only scratch the surface of my documented Barber house examples, built in New York. And obviously, there will be many more posts from this state in the future, but until then, here is a worthy sampling. Enjoy.

Brocton, New York Luther Ross Dean was a very successful businessman and farmer, being the proprietor of a vineyard and also a commercial fruit grower. Wilbur Aldrich Residence

Staten Island, NY The Wilbur Aldrich residence was built in the "Prohibition Park" area of Staten Island, but research to date has not uncovered this home. And while it is possible that the home no longer exists, I struggle to find any evidence of a residence that was associated with Wilbur Aldrich, that resembles this design or footprint. Therefore, I …
